I visit this viewpoint to watch dolphins play below throughout the year. At times there would be groups of dolphins surfing the waves and swimming around the bay.
It is a hidden spot I found on a bushwalk out of curiousity when peering through the branches out into the ocean. From that day, I visit almost monthly.
After visiting many times, it never occured to me to photograph the Milky Way from this lookout. One night I made the trip out and captured my favourite image to date.
It is a vastly different experience being there at night compared to the day. The waves seem louder as your senses are heightened. Each step is more careful as to not get too close to the dropoff. And once you familiarise with your surrounds it becomes a peaceful serenity.
I have come here over a dozen times at night to photogrpah the Milky Way and each time I have not been able to capture the landscape to best represent the scene. On this night I was determined to do this as I wanted to showcase the whole viewpoint and a large section of the Milky Way. On earlier trips, I have captured a tight view of just the bay with the Milky Way but I wanted an expanded view this time capturing the whole bay and Milky Way.
This perspective showcases the maginificnet view from above and I feel satisfied I have captured an image which represents my favourite view at night.
