What you need
Almost any camera can photograph the Milky Way! Ask me if your camera can.
Borrow one of David's cameras for the night if you want to get started!
Bridge or DSLR Camera
Lenses (10mm,14mm, 18mm, 20mm or 24mm) even the 18-55mm is good
Why can you only photograph the Milky Way on specific dates?
Good question! There needs to be no moon in the sky so we can see more stars twinkling at night. Also, the Earth's position orbiting the sun needs to be aligned with the Milky Way stars. Our dates have been selected to capture photographs of the stars under the perfect conditions.
What happens if it is overcast?
In the event of overcast weather, our Masterclass will continue as planned for night photography. You will learn everything about Milky Way photography and we will continue to use the new skills we have learnt for light painting photography and steel wool photography as detailed in your handout. Due to the nature of photography, mother nature can adjust our plans.
Can my camera and lens photograph the stars?
Most cameras and lens can photograph the stars. Generally a camera post-2008 can photograph the Milky Way stars, nebulas and nearby galaxies. For example a Canon 550D or Nikon D3200 can photograph the stars. Send a message to see if your camera can.
I do not have a camera, can I join?
Yes of course! I have a spare camera and lens if you are starting night photography.
Do you have an age limit?
Many teenagers have joined a workshop. On the workshop I guide each person through the whole process.
Can we know more about the unique stars, nebulas and objects in my photograph?
Yes of course, on our night under the stars feel free to ask any questions you have about astronomy.
