FAQ

Answers to commonly asked questions

Why can you only photograph the Milky Way on specific dates?

Good question! The Earth, Sun and Moon need to align for the best conditions to photograph the night sky. The Earth's position orbiting the sun needs to be aligned with the Milky Way stars. and we call this "The Milky Way Season"  This occurs 70~ nights per year at a comfortable hour. It is a small window each year to capture the magnificent night sky.

I do not have a camera, can I join?

Yes of course! I have spare cameras and lens if you to capture beautiful photographs on the Masterclass.

How do we book?

Bookings can be made by filling in the form above. There are limited spots available on the night so be sure to book as soon as possible.

Can my partner join me?

If you would like your partner to join you, you will need to book two spots. I have cameras for you to borrow if you do not have two cameras or you are welcome to share a camera on the night.

Can we know more about the unique stars, nebulas and objects in my photograph?

Yes of course, on our night under the stars feel free to ask any questions you have about astronomy!

Do you have an age limit?

Many teenagers have joined a Masterclass and I teach from a beginners level. On the workshop I guide each person through the whole process.

What happens if it is overcast?

In the event of cloudy weather, our Masterclass will continue as planned where you will capture images at Norah Head Lighthouse at night. Each Masterclass date has been planned on key specific dates aligning the Earth, Moon, Milky Way core and Norah Head Lighthouse in advance. Weather forecasts are not predictable far in advance and by booking the Masterclass you are agreeing to the Masterclass weather policy outlined below.

You will continue to learn important techniques and aspect of night photography in the Masterclass and leave with beautiful images.

  • In the event of bad weather I have saved September 12th for you to return for a make-up session from 7pm - 9pm weather permitting. No cancellations or refunds will be considered if you cannot join this date.

  • Scattered clouds add drama to a photograph, we will capture mother nature using the elements the night brings at Norah Head Lighthouse.

  • If heavy clouds are present, light painting and steel wool photography will be our primary focus on the night.

  • If rain occurs, the Masterclass will continue indoors at The Entrance Leagues Club continuing to learn the important techniques and aspects of astrophotography. The main goal of the Masterclass is to teach technique and skills which can be achieved indoors.

By booking your Masterclass spot you are agreeing the Masterclass weather policy.

What happens if I need to cancel?

You can cancel your Masterclass booking anytime and you will accept the refund penalties based on the schedule below. Requests will be accepted by email and calculated on the date it is received.

  • More than 45 days you will be refunded in full minus a 10% booking fee.

  • Between 14 - 45 days you will be refunded 50% of your booking.

  • Less than 14 days no refunds will be issued. If there is a waitlist I will try my best for someone to take your spot for a refund minus 10% booking fee.
